Trading on the local stock exchange saw a day of notable movements, with select mining and holding firms posting significant gains, while some communication and broadcasting entities faced a downturn. The day's activity highlighted sectors benefiting from renewed investor interest and those grappling with market pressures.
Leading the pack of top performers was Vantage Equities, Inc. (V), which surged by an impressive 49.38 percent. Its last done price settled at ₱1.21, a gain of ₱0.40. The trading volume for V reached 30,760,000 shares, translating to a substantial total value of ₱35,918,900.00.
Easycall Communications Philippines, Inc. (ECP) also caught investors' attention, climbing 34.78 percent or ₱0.80 to close at ₱3.10. Despite a modest volume of 53,000 shares worth ₱152,560.00, the rally suggests strong buying interest, potentially buoyed by expectations of the company’s expansion into new digital services amidst a growing demand for connectivity solutions.
Other significant advancers included Mabuhay Holdings Corporation (MHC), which added ₱0.039, or 28.06 percent, to finish at ₱0.178 on a volume of 470,000 shares valued at ₱86,450.00. PH Resorts Group Holdings, Inc. (PHR) likewise saw a substantial rise of 27.81 percent, up ₱0.052 to a last done price of ₱0.239, with 29,720,000 shares worth ₱7,096,000.00 changing hands. The tourism and leisure sector, to which PH Resorts belongs, has been showing signs of recovery, attracting speculative interest.
Mining companies showcased a strong performance, with Nihao Mineral Resources International, Inc. (NI) gaining 14.04 percent to ₱0.65, a ₱0.08 increase, with 218,000 shares traded for ₱135,930.00. Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corporation (AT) also recorded a robust 10.82 percent jump, adding ₱2.25 to its share price to close at ₱23.05. This move was backed by significant trading, with 8,617,200 shares amounting to a substantial ₱192,952,992.00 in value. The positive sentiment in the mining sector could be attributed to a sustained rally in global commodity prices and potential legislative support for local mining operations. East Coast Vulcan Mining Corporation (ECVC) and United Paragon Mining Corporation (UPM) rounded out the top mining gainers, rising 8.45 percent (₱0.03 to ₱0.385) and 6.90 percent (₱0.0006 to ₱0.0093) respectively.
Other notable gainers included LBC Express Holdings, Inc. (LBC), up 9.92 percent to ₱7.76 on a thin volume of 500 shares valued at ₱3,810.00, and Upson International Corp. (UPSON), which saw its shares increase by 8.86 percent to ₱0.86, with a volume of 1,019,000 shares valued at ₱865,880.00.
On the flip side, PAXYS, Inc. (PAX) led the decliners, shedding 10.03 percent of its value, or ₱0.38, to settle at ₱3.41. The company traded 71,000 shares, totaling ₱243,870.00. This decline could reflect concerns over its operational performance or a broader re-evaluation of tech-related stocks.
Boulevard Holdings, Inc. (BHI) followed with an 8.33 percent drop, losing ₱0.003 to close at ₱0.033, on a high volume of 14,000,000 shares worth ₱478,400.00. Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) also experienced a significant decline, falling 8.20 percent or ₱0.45 to ₱5.04. The broadcast media sector has been facing increasing competition from digital platforms, potentially impacting advertising revenues.
IPM Holdings, Inc. (IPM) saw its shares decrease by 7.55 percent, down ₱0.16 to ₱1.96, with 11,000 shares valued at ₱21,560.00. Oriental Petroleum and Minerals Corporation "A" (OPM) dropped 6.67 percent, closing at ₱0.014 with a loss of ₱0.001 per share on a volume of 5,300,000 worth ₱78,700.00. Alliance Select Foods International, Inc. (FOOD) also registered a 6.25 percent dip, ending at ₱0.30 after losing ₱0.02, with 100,000 shares for ₱30,000.00.
Rounding out the day's top losers were Sta. Lucia Land, Inc. (SLI), which declined 6.03 percent to ₱1.87 with 26,000 shares for ₱48,670.00; NOW Corporation (NOW), down 5.56 percent to ₱0.425 on 760,000 shares valued at ₱326,000.00; Suntrust Resort Holdings, Inc. (SUN), which decreased by 4.65 percent to ₱0.41 for 330,000 shares worth ₱135,300.00; and SBS Philippines Corporation (SBS), down 4.46 percent to ₱3.00 with 47,000 shares traded for ₱141,180.00.
